Kids + pebbles = art

The workshops in the schools are part of the larger plan: the WIA Community Pebble Mosaic Project. This project will involve the creation of a 12’ diameter mosaic, surrounded by a piazza filled with landscaping, greenery, seating areas and the small mosaics created by the kids. Through these sessions the children at the Waterfront Montessori Children’s Centre and at the Island Public School will be given the opportunity to learn about local rocks, collect them from Island beaches, and form them into lasting pieces of public and community art. They will be able to add their mosaics to the overall piece, integrated into the design.

The documentation of the process will add another dimension to the project, enabling older students to learn about film making and allowing them to be a part of this community project as well.
