First Workshops

We would like to run the first pebble mosaic workshop on either Monday, December 6 or Tuesday, December 7 at Artscape Gibraltar Point. Each workshop can accommodate 10 people. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and materials will be supplied. If you've been doing any pebble collecting on your own, or you have some special ones, you should bring those pebbles along.

The plan is to create one 12"x12" piece each according to the design attached. It will be mainly a technique workshop where you learn what kind of pebbles work best and how to lay them in following the pattern. You will cast the mosaic with cemetitious grout when you have finished, and they all will be turned out when they have hardened sufficiently, either one or two days later. You are encouraged to return for this exciting part of the process. After curing and winter storage and depending the quality of the first works, the mosaics will become part of the new square which we will be creating in front of the Ward's clubhouse.

There is a cost of $75 per person, payable upon registration.

After people have learned the technique, we will begin working on the large 12' diameter community mosaic in the new year. Artscape Gibraltar Point has generously donated space to the project for the work over the winter and early spring — we are very lucky to have such supportive local institutions.

Please let us know if you would prefer the Monday or Tuesday, the workshop will only run on one of those days. The second workshop will be early in January 2011.

The first square below Penny made on the weekend and turned out today, the second photo shows Penny and Kathleen's, side by side. Now imagine another 20 or 30!
