Over the last few months we have been developing ideas and plans for the Ward's Island Square. Jerry Englar has done a series of new drawings incorporating these visions. The one pictured here shows the site and adjacent area in two views, both plan and elevation, to give you a better idea of how it will look.
At this point we have only a modest amount of funding, from individuals and from the Ward's Island Recreation Association. With this we are going ahead with the workshops to teach community members how to make a pebble mosaic, as well as with developing the design for the central 12' diameter mosaic, and purchasing supplies for its construction. Frank Horn is working on the restoration of the Landing Stage, which will be featured in the area which is now the garbage transfer site. Ongoing fundraising efforts continue, thanks mainly to Sylvia Sweeney.
